the monetary aspect
Our campaign pledges include a small donation to the Gillingham Campaign as well as a commitment to use Fairtrade products. The reason for this is that we need funding to run the campaign. We may find one or more businesses to help - but especially in the recession we may not. Spreading the cost with many giving a little seems the best approach.
Should we find ourselves in the fortunate position of raising more than we need the money will go to:
- The Fairtrade Foundation - we are using literature supplied for free by the Foundation, as well as having enjoyed the visit of Arsene Sourabie, also funded by the Foundation (a registered charity, and relying a lot on volunteers for its work)
- Traidcraft Exchange - does a lot of work identifying areas of need for fair trade projects to be set up, trains producers ready to be able to run co-operatives, etc. Traidcraft also supports speakers, which we are also using.
- The Dorset Fairtrade Campaign - an initial meeting for those interested was held in October 2008.
- or other similar fair trade causes, as agreed by the Steering Group
